about the Author

Dr. Tan is a physician-scientist, author, and editor. He is Professor Emeritus of Internal Medicine (Metabolism, Endocrinology & Diabetes), University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Prior to returning to academia, he was Distinguished Fellow at Lilly Research Laboratories and Global Medical Director, Endocrine & Diabetes Platform Team, Eli Lilly and Company. Before his career in industry, he was Professor of Medicine & Biochemistry, and Head, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.   

An advocate for diabetes, he was President of the Canadian Diabetes Association and Vice-President of the International Diabetes Federation. He has made diabetes presentations to both health professional and lay audiences in many countries.
